Before And After: Two Companion Poems

Fly

I'm so tired of seeing it
Can't you just take it all away
I hate looking at the pity
I hate feeling the sharp pain
I hate tasting the vile defeat
I hate hearing the desperation
I hate smelling the fury and rage
I hate being in this head
Explain to me why again
Why can't I just fly?

Loan Out Some Glue

Loan out some glue
Fix those broken hearts
Put them back into you
Pull out painful darts
Back together, shard by shard
Looking new and changed
Even if you think it's too hard
Heart piece newly arranged
Step back to admire the work
Feel the cracks filled in
Push away pain that wants to lurk
But remember where heart's been
