Couldn't Be Saved
An apology won't fix it.
Trust disappeared long ago.
Then it was found mutilated,
By the side of the road,
Like in all those murder-mysteries.
So when you mock this event,
And scowl down at us,
From that high horse of yours,
We scowl right back up at you,
And we mock you in return.
Only we don't force you to listen,
We don't share our words of "wisdom."
We don't talk about it with you.
In our minds, we know conformity sucks.
To "convert" you isn't worth the effort.
I stand by her side, with her,
Watching you across a widening void.
A void separating reality and "Not."
And I slightly mourn the loss of you.
Of innocence that couldn't be saved.
