The
Queen’s Own
Not long ago, my dad bought me a set of books from a fantasy book club he
belongs to. After I got into them I
fell in love with them. More
specifically, I fell in love with the author who is known as Mercedes Lackey.
Mercedes writes fantasy novels of magic, but she herself must control the
magic of words for she has enchanted me along with many others.
She would be an excellent person to invite anywhere.
Thus, I would invite Mercedes Lackey, a literary genius, to enlighten us.
There are a variety of reasons Mercedes would benefit the class and the first being her career choice. Misty, as she is called by most, is a full time novelist. Her love is writing to entertain. The love Misty has for this art form is lost on many people today who look upon writing as some kind of evil chore. It might not completely convince them that writing is not horrid, but at least they could hear why a writer is so addicted to the written word. Mercedes is very passionate in her writing, putting pieces of herself into it.
My second reason for inviting Misty is that she could teach us about each
other. In her books, her characters
seem to have the personalities of real people we know despite living in a
fantasy world. She has a grasp of human nature and habit that most don’t
have. Misty knows emotions quite
well. To tell stories of people
like Mercedes does you have to know people in your own world along with people
of the other worlds. If the
characters hadn’t seemed like someone I could believe and relate to I probably
wouldn’t have been quite as captivated. Mercedes
knows that exceptionally well and hence, she knows people and their reactions.
The last reason that Mercedes Lackey is my guest of choice is due to
something that is more like one of her hobbies than anything professional.
Misty is a licensed wild bird rehabilitator.
In truth, it would be something to tell to a science class studying a
unit on animals but Misty loves her birds.
She has a flock of parrots, too. It
would be a good example of someone doing her part to save an element of the
environment
Misty has an occupation she loves and a life, though not filled with
snowy white horses, still filled with wonders and dreams.
She helps animals in whichever way she can.
Through her books she has taught me of human habit and nature and become
a household name in my house at least. It’s
time for her to teach others.
